A real story about pregnancy, chronic illness, and informed choices.
When Laurie, a long-time advocate with the Canadian Arthritis Patient Alliance (CAPA), began planning for pregnancy, she knew that managing her rheumatoid arthritis and hypertension (high blood pressure) would require more than just medical appointments. It would require courage, support, and difficult decisions.
In this short and powerful video, Laurie shares what it was like to prepare for pregnancy while living with chronic illness; from changing medications ahead of time, to coping with pain and uncertainty, to managing guilt around treatment and breastfeeding. Her experience reflects what many people face when navigating pregnancy and medication use in the real world.
People living with chronic conditions often face extra barriers when planning a pregnancy. Access to clear, evidence-based information about medications and pregnancy safety is essential, but it’s not always easy to find. Laurie’s story shows why you shouldn’t have to choose between your health and your baby’s health.
