Brochures

Living with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) during pregnancy can raise many questions. Are these intrusive thoughts normal? Will my symptoms get worse during pregnancy or after birth? Is it safe to continue my treatment? What options are available to support my mental health while considering both my needs and my baby’s?

OCD can appear for the first time or become more noticeable during pregnancy and the postpartum period. The good news is that effective treatments are available, and you do not have to face these challenges alone.

This infographic provides clear, evidence-based information to help you better understand OCD during pregnancy and the different treatment and support options available. It was designed to help you discuss your options with your healthcare team and make informed decisions based on your individual situation.

You’ll learn about:

  • what OCD is and how it may present during pregnancy;
  • the difference between common pregnancy worries and symptoms of OCD;
  • treatment options, with or without medication;
  • when to talk to a healthcare professional.

OCD symptoms can have a significant impact on daily life, but effective treatments are available. Depending on your individual situation, your healthcare team may recommend psychotherapy, medication, or a combination of both. If you are already taking medication for OCD, talk with your healthcare team before making any changes to your treatment so you can choose the approach that is right for you.
